Dr. Samar Kafeel and Dr. Anisa Jeewa both had influences that deeply rooted them to the field of optometry since their early teens. Their passion for the Eyecare Industry only grew from there.
Dr. Kafeel and Dr. Jeewa met at Aston University, School of Optometry, in the UK, where their friendship quickly blossomed. They literally became inseparable (no joke!). Fast forward 12+ years and the concept of Empire Eyewear was born.
Our doctors wanted to create a clinic that not only provided care for your eye health but also for your appearance too. This means comprehensive eye exams with a fashion forward selection of glasses and contact lenses. We want our patients to see well, look good, and feel amazing!!

Dr. Anisa Jeewa
Dr. Anisa Jeewa was inspired to pursue optometry at the age of 15, by her uncle, an ophthalmologist in UK, where she witnessed the power of sight and how it impacted the lives of individuals.
She was born and raised in Etobicoke and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from York University. Shortly after, she went on to attend Aston University, School of Optometry, in the UK, where she graduated with Honours Standing in 2009.
During her hospital rounds, Dr. Jeewa developed a keen interest in glaucoma diagnosis and treatment. Both of Dr. Jeewa's parents also have this debilitating eye disease and only furthered her passion. She spent 4 years practicing as a leading resident optometrist in the beautiful town of Oxfordshire then moved to Poole, Dorset where she co-managed a store linked to a primary UK eye-care provider. Dr Jeewa returned home to Toronto in 2013, to complete her qualifications at the University of Waterloo and obtained her Ontario licensure.
She is fully licensed and certified in the use of diagnostic and therapeutic agents to detect, treat, and manage various ocular conditions. She makes it her mission to ensure that every patient experiences a thorough and complete eye exam. When she is not providing patient care, Dr. Jeewa enjoys spending time with family, travelling and staying active. She can speak Urdu and Hindi and understands Gujarati.
Dr. Samar Kafeel
Dr. Kafeel’s interest sparked in the field of optometry after she did a co-op term in high school when she was only 16 years old. Since then she has volunteered or has worked for many optometrists in the gta and has been licenced to practice optometry since 2009.
Dr. Kafeel completed her Optometry school from Aston University in United Kingdom. She practiced optometry in Oxford for 3 years before returning back home to Canada. Dr. Kafeel loved practicing in Europe, but home is where the heart is and she returned back to Toronto in 2012.
Dr. Kafeel is well versed with all aspects of optometry and is qualified in therapeutic use. However, she has a special interest in Diabetic eye care as her own grandmother has lost some of her vision due to this debilitating disease. She has also worked in remote locations, such as Fort Albany in Ontario to service the First Nations Communities who majority are also battling diabetes.
Dr. Kafeel is especially good with children as she has a young daughter of her own. In her free time she loves to travel and spend time with her family. She is fluent in Urdu and Hindi and can understand Punjabi.
Manu Jassal
Manu Jassal is Empire Eyewear’s resident optician. Eyewear is much more than a visual aid to Manu-it is a way of life. This is because Manu has grown up surrounded by the optical industry. Her family has been operating in the optical industry for over 25 years, and she herself has been involved for more than 8 years.
Manu is fluent in Punjabi and enjoys working with patients of all ages and various backgrounds. Manu strives to provide patients with the highest quality of customer care. She has a passion for eyewear and fashion and is always keeping up with the latest trends. Manu understands finding the right pair of glasses is both an art and science. Providing a tailored approach to each patient, Manu considers all the angles, including prescription, visual needs, facial features, hobbies, lifestyle and more.
Manu successfully completed the opticianry program at Georgian College in 2018 and is currently working towards becoming a fully licenced optician in Ontario. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in History from York University.
